
The candle shows the result, not the process
You look at a green candle and read it the simple way: the market's going up, buyers are in control, time to get in. You enter — and the next bar flips you into a loss. Sound familiar? I read charts like that for years myself, unable to figure out why the "obvious" trades kept turning against me right after entry.
A candle isn't what's happening in the market right now. It's a result. Thousands of trades compressed into one rectangle. Inside that green candle there could have been heavy selling pressure that someone big simply absorbed — and you never saw it, because the candle shows the result, not the process.
All your indicators — RSI, MACD, moving averages — are calculated from that same price. Put simply, you're analyzing the effect and trying to guess the cause from it.

Why even a textbook pattern still blows up
Say you find a beautiful pattern — an absorption, head and shoulders, whatever's in the book. You enter strictly by the rules. And you get stopped out. First thought: the market is manipulated against you personally.
In a sense, it is. Just not against you personally. The more popular a pattern is, the more traders put their stop in exactly the same spot — and a cluster of stops is liquidity. A large player needs that liquidity to build a position, and they know exactly where you stacked it.
⚠️ Important: By the time a pattern has formed on the candles and become visible to everyone, a large player has already either built or distributed their position. You weren't late because of a bad pattern — you were late because the candle only shows the picture after everything already happened.
Volume isn't a green bar
"But I can see volume — right there, the bar under the chart. So what do I do with it?"
Nothing. Classic volume answers one question — "how much." A lot went through, or a little. For making a decision, that's empty: high volume shows up on reversals just as often as on continuations.

Volume analysis answers three questions that price stays silent on:

Put simply, classic volume is hearing the noise of a crowd. Volume analysis is picking out individual voices within that noise.
Learn bottom-up, trade top-down
This is usually where confusion kicks in, so let's clear it up right away. The whole course rests on two tools: Footprint shows what's inside a single bar, and Volume Profile shows how volume is distributed across a session. And you might rightly ask: why start with a bar, if everyone says "context of the day first"?
Because learning and trading follow two different orders.
- When learning, we go bottom-up: first we break down what the signal inside a bar is made of, then how bars add up into a day. Otherwise you're just pressing buttons without understanding what's behind them.
- In a trade, the order is reversed, top-down: the day's context first, then the cluster of a specific bar.
Both orders are correct. I'll name them explicitly at every step, so you never lose track of whether we're learning or trading.
